Re-imagining an EV Icon: Bringing the all-new LEAF to Life
Last week, Nissan took a daring step forward in its EV journey – by unveiling the much-anticipated 3rd generation LEAF.
While the model will always be famous for its pioneering status as the world's first mass-market EV, much has changed in the years since its introduction in 2010. To ensure this iconic model stayed at the front of the global electrification movement, our designers had to think different, design smarter, and produce a model that met the needs of modern consumers – to make going electric feel like the obvious next step. Have they done that? Absolutely!
In the above video, meet Richard Candler - Vice President, Global Product Strategy, and Nobutaka Tase – Programme Design Director for the new LEAF, who will take you through just a selection of the new features that make our latest piece of electrified excellence so special, including:
Sculpted for Impact & Efficiency
The design team has taken a bold stance, where simple crafting meets high-function performance. The new LEAF shifts away from soft aesthetics toward muscular fenders, pronounced fastback curves, with wider wheels to bring presence. Every line cuts wind and carves character simultaneously.
Drag Dropped, Range Ramped
Aerodynamics isn't an afterthought, it's the model's centrepiece. Our focus on airflow – active grille shutters, flush door handles, a flat undercarriage, and that sleek rear – brings the drag coefficient down to 0.25 in Europe. The result? Dramatically improved range and efficiency.
"Emotional & Rational" – A Winning Duality
Richard puts it best: the new LEAF marries emotional appeal with real-world sensibility. It's not just a sleek silhouette, it's family-friendly, tech-savvy, and engineered around the lives of modern drivers, not just the specs sheet.
Panoramic Power & Thoughtful Tech
The new LEAF's dimming panoramic glass roof isn't just a statement, it's an aerodynamic asset – smoothing airflow and enhancing interior comfort. That's not all however, as its retractable handles and active air control systems mean less drag and more sophistication.
A Legacy, Reimagined
With nearly 700,000 LEAFs sold and over 28 billion global kilometres driven, Nissan poured this experience into every line and detail. This third-gen EV isn't just a refresh; it's a statement that embodies thoughtful design, world-class engineering, and a purposeful shift beyond the hatchback norm.
With every aerodynamic crease and tumble of airflow, we are breaking away from the ordinary to create a dynamic model that provides the everyday convenience necessary to make switching to all electric a breeze.
