Inspired by Locally-Driven Action: Nissan’s Ambition for a Cleaner, Safer, More Inclusive World

Nissan's ambition of driving a cleaner, safer, more inclusive world involves the commitment of all employees across the globe – working together to foster an environment where everyone feels free to be themselves, and where our goal of carbon neutrality by 2050 is championed business-wide.

Our Africa, Middle East, India, Europe and Oceania (AMIEO) region is forging ahead with targets that focus on localised, scalable solutions for meaningful and long-term impact. Our strategy, called "Nissan AMIEO Sustainability 2030", reflects the diversity we embrace across the region, while supporting and reinforcing Nissan's global initiatives: Nissan Green Program 2030 and Nissan Social Program 2030.

Friederike Kienitz, Senior Vice President, Sustainability, Corporate Affairs and Governance at Nissan AMIEO, is one of the driving forces behind our sustainability efforts. In the above podcast, she talks about the critical importance of actionable and achievable sustainability targets – reflecting that "you can't have a business operation without thinking about sustainability."

Friederike summarises some of the progress Nissan is making to meet the opportunities of the transition, including the development of our EV36Zero vision – creating a 360-degree approach to manufacturing at our Sunderland Plant in the UK, and the achievement of water-positive status at our Alliance Chennai Plant in India.

Nissan's commitment to sustainability is strongly linked with embedding Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) into everything we do. This focus is particularly important to Friederike as the Chairperson of our AMIEO DEI Council. Whether it is our ambition to increase the representation of women in executive positions to 35% by 2030, or the incredible efforts by some of our team members at our Sunderland Plant to learn sign language to forge stronger connections with their deaf colleagues, we are accountable to our targets and encourage our teams to drive change in their communities. You can read more about our initiatives and progress in our annual DEI Report.

Ultimately, our journey towards a cleaner, safer, more inclusive world is a collective, evolving effort requiring input from all employees across the region and the globe.
